Five Sport Cars at the San Diego International Auto Show

Mark Maynard, Auto Editor for the San Diego Union-Tribune, features five sport cars at the San Diego International Auto Show as he reports from inside the San Diego Automotive Museum.

The big auto show welcomes 2020 with its five-day run on New Year’s Day in the San Diego Convention Center. There will be around 400 new vehicles on display, with some interesting new subcompact SUVs, a few new small hybrid SUVs and a dominant mix of SUVs and pickup trucks — of all sizes. But 2019 was also the year of the sports car.

Chevrolet introduced its new midengine Corvette Stingray — in hardtop and convertible.

Ford matched swords with a 760-horsepower Mustang Shelby GT500.

Toyota brought back its Supra — based on the BMW Z4.

Nissan honored its 565-horsepower GT-R supercar with a 50th anniversary edition.

And Dodge will show its Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody muscle sedan, with 707-hp — and if that’s not enough, there is a 717-horsepower Daytona Edition.
