Prior to engines and racing, Dave Arce was involved in electronics, beginning in high school. A native of Santee, CA, his first work with engines was on a 1963 Chevrolet truck his sister gave to him. The truck needed a massive amount of work, and he was able to get it up and running. Arce continued working on engines in his garage during his spare time, while pursuing a career in electronics and avionics.

He turned to engine-building full-time around 1992 when he opened his own business, Arce Engines. Also a racecar driver, Arce raced street stock cars at Cajon Speedway from 1995–2004. When Cajon closed in 2004, he raced at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernadino, CA from 2005–2007.

Arce was involved with the Lucas Oil Modified Series almost from its inception in 2006. He was one of the first on the west coast to race a Gen 3 car and was instrumental in having Lucas Oil Modified Series being the first to legalize fuel injection for Saturday night circle track racing. After leaving the Lucas Oil Series in 2018, Arce, who owns and runs Arce Racing, competed in the Spears Modified Series until 2024.
