The horsepower race started in Fifties’ America, but arguably the car that really got the classic musclecar era into gear was the 1964 Pontiac GTO. The GTO combined Pontiac’s muscular 389-cubic-inch V-8 with its lightest car, the redesigned intermediate-sized ’64 Tempest LeMans.
